BOY MEETS GIRL: 2013 Tomboy Trend

Though the summer is quickly coming to an end, the summer fashion trends are still making headlines.

The boyish look or tomboy trend was all abuzz in the winter preview for spring and summer fashion of this year, and that prediction was spot on.

This trend has taken full flight from the runway to our local retail and discount stores.

Target is one of the biggest supporters of this trend and carries a variety of these awesome runway looks that are very affordable.

This trend has even been seen on many a red carpet this year. The celebs have really taken to this new casual, sleek, and rugged trend. They have been seen and photographed rocking the tomboy look as an everyday relaxed ensemble paired with a wedge sneaker or embellished flats, grabbing coffee from Starbucks. Whereas others have opted to pair their look with a wedge heel or stilettos while going to a dinner with friends or their significant other.

Whether dressed up or down, as summer dwindles and merges into fall, this tomboy trend seems to not be fizzling or fading anytime soon. Will you hop aboard the tomboy train?

If you haven't heard already, R&B singer Keyshia Cole has teamed up with shoe designer Steve Madden.

Ms. Cole has actually been in talks with Madden for about four years now. Keyshia expressed that she wanted to do a deal with Steve Madden specifically because that's all she used to buy before she got her record deal.

She also expressed that she wanted for the shoes to be affordable for her many adoring fans, as well.

The shoe line itself has been in the works for awhile now but Keyshia actually debuted the first pair from the collection back in October of 2012 on BET's 106 & Park.

As of last week, the full collection is now available. At first glance, the collection has received rave reviews.

It looks like Keyshia Cole and Steve Madden will be making sweet music together. We all will definitely be looking out for these funky, edgy, and girly shoes  in our local stores very soon.

STEP INTO FALL: 2013 Fall Shoe Preview

While the summer is dwindling to its end, the fall shoe trends are revving up.

This years fall shoes consist of a little bit of Bohemian, Victorian, punk, and a whole lot of men inspired, footwear. Of course I can't forget to mention that the retro and military inspired or chunky look will be huge as well.

Textures will include mesh, lace, leather, pony hair and leopard print. These textures will be incorporated in many different styles and designs, though mostly on low cut, ankle boots, and wedges.

The color for shoes this fall will consist of ocean or royal blues, wine or deep plum, and olive greens. These colors will definitely work their way into many color blocked and twenties inspired ensembles.

To elaborate more on the military, chunky boot trend this fall; These boots can be worn casually which is most common to many. However, they have also been seen on the runway and in fall look books paired with skirts and dresses, giving them a more chic appeal. Continuing on with the chunky theme, thick heels will be 'in' this fall as well. Competing with the stiletto no longer, the bulky heel is a force to be reckoned with this year.

The t-strap, Victorian, and boy inspired pumps and heels are a big hit this fall. They have many different functions within the wardrobe setting. They can be paired with a nice pair of jeans with a button down shirt or dressed up with a belted pencil skirt and silk or rayon blouse.

Also notable this fall season will be the over the knee boots. These sexy and sassy boots created a lot of buzz on the runway and some celebs have already been caught sporting these trendy and stylish footwear around their respective towns. Coupling these boots with a nice pair of shorts with a blazer or an above the knee skirt with a peek-a-boo shirt or an off the shoulder blouse will definitely make these boots pop.

The wedge sneaker won't be going anywhere this fall either. Many designers have gone back to their creative drawing boards and are releasing a slew of new fall and winter styles to keep this fun, funky, and multifunctional shoe trend going strong. Be sure to look out for the updated styles at a your local shoe stores soon.

So whatever your desired fashion or style, the funky footwear this autumn is most definitely a trend that you'd want to 'fall' into.

RED CARPET WRAP-UP: The ESPY Awards

The ESPY Awards have wrapped and the red carpet looks are all abuzz.

The helmets, gloves, cleats, and jerseys have come off and the athletes have stepped up to the plate of another game...the fashion game.

They have traded in their athletic gear to rock the suits, tuxes, dresses, and stilettos. The men brought their A game to this years red carpet. From 2013 NBA Champions Miami Heats' D. Wade with his black tux, bow tie, and scarf, paired with Balenciaga Red Arena Black top sneakers to former boxing champion Sugar Shane Mosley in his peach/coral button down dress shirt, white slacks, and cream snakeskin dress shoes, the fellas were definitely dressed to impress.

The ladies did not disappoint either. They showed up and showed out on the ESPY red carpet as well. From actress Gabrielle Union and her Marc Bauwer plunging neckline black and silver embellished thigh high dress to Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas with her black bustier dress with the slit on the side, the ladies most certainly got it in last night.

Many designers headed up the red carpet at the ESPY's but Dolce and Gabbana was absolutely giving them all a run for their money last night. The men and women were blazing the fashion trail in the hottest runway styles and fashion trends of the year.

Old and new school athletes alike have agents and managers to handle negotiations and business but their glam squads and stylist positively played their positions last night and killed the red carpet.

There were, however, some that slipped a little and left much to be desired but for the most part the athletes, their spouses, actors, singers, and rappers absolutely set the red carpet on fire.

That goes to show you that not only do the athletes like to work and play hard at their individual sports but they also like to be on top of their fashion game as well and we loved every minute of it.
