Hair Color, a nice change to a boring head of hair, right? See a color you want, pick it up, or have it done at your local salon right? Wrong! There are a lot of factors that go into getting the best, but more importantly the RIGHT color to accentuate your hair.
First of all, when choosing hair color, it's very important that you know what category that you fall into. These categories are defined as Warm or Cool. Why is this so important, you may ask? Because just as when you are picking a foundation, you don't want the color clashing with your skin tone. However, your skin tone is not the only factor to choosing the perfect hair color. Your eye color, your natural, and previous artificial color play a pivotal role as well.
How do I determine if I am Warm or Cool? There are online guides that can help you in this area or if you don't have access to these on the go, here are a few simple rules to remember.
You are in the Cool Category if:
- Your eyes are deep brown, gray blue, dark blue, or hazel.
- Your skin tone is very dark, true olive(Asians or Latinos), medium w/no color in cheeks, medium w/golden undertones, pale w/no color in the cheeks, pale w/pink undertones, and brown or bronze when you tan.
- Your natural hair color is blue black, deepest coffee brown, medium ash brown, medium golden brown, dishwater blonde, salt and pepper white.
You are in the Warm Category if:
- Your eyes are golden brown, green, green blue, or turquoise.
- Your skin tone is brown w/pink undertone, brown w/golden undertone, pale w/peach or gold undertones, freckled, or ruddy.
- Your natural hair color is deep brown w/gold or red highlights, red, strawberry blonde, gray w/yellow cast, or natural golden blonde.
With these simple guidelines, you are well on your way to picking the perfect color for this up coming Spring season. And always remember, if ever in doubt, consult a local hairstylist or colorist before you make a mistake that can take months to rectify.
